Top Names Will Take the Stage at The 2006 National Show

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Continuing its tradition of attracting top leaders from cable and related industries, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) today released a list of formidable CEOs and industry observers in the first wave of confirmed speakers for general session panels at The 2006 National Show, NCTA’s 55th Annual Convention and International Exposition, April 9-11 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

NCTA also said the theme for this year’s conference will be “Cable: A Great American Success Story.”

Speakers that have confirmed their participation in general sessions for this year’s Show include:

  • David Edmondson, President & CEO, RadioShack

  • Gary Forsee, President & CEO, Sprint Nextel

  • Malcolm Gladwell, best-selling author, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference and Blink

  • Richard Parsons, Chairman & CEO, Time Warner, Inc.

  • Brian Roberts, Chairman & CEO, Comcast Corporation

Additional speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.

The theme for The 2006 National Show also doubles as the slogan of a new multimedia advertising campaign unveiled this week by NCTA. That initiative is designed to demonstrate how the cable industry has grown from an industry comprising small companies that offered better reception for a handful of over-the-air TV channels, to a broadband powerhouse that has changed the way consumers view television, use the Internet and make telephone calls.

"As the industry’s premiere showcase, the National Show each year highlights cable’s record of innovation and success. So we can’t think of a better theme to headline the Show in reinforcing the many ways in which cable is revolutionizing America’s telecommunications landscape and enhancing the use by Americans of the popular services our companies provide,” said Kyle McSlarrow, President & CEO, NCTA.

A variety of features at this year’s Show will help provide proof points of how cable has become “a great American success story.” They include the new Cable Game Arena video gaming pavilion; CableLabs’ annual CableNET pavilion, featuring round-the-bend technologies; VoiceNET, a new pavilion featuring voice services; and BizNET, a new pavilion on business services planned in conjunction with the Business Services Forum sponsored by the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM).

The 2006 Show itself is already demonstrating significant success. The amount of exhibit space for which has been contracted by exhibiting companies already has surpassed the amount of exhibit space in use at The 2005 National Show last May in San Francisco, NCTA said.
