Senior Government Affairs Executive Moves to NCTA from CTIA
Washington, D.C. – National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) President & CEO Robert Sachs today announced the appointment of Steven K. Berry (photo attached) as Senior Vice President, Government Relations for NCTA, effective January 2, 2004.
Berry, 51, has served as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) since 1997, where he’s been responsible for all federal and state advocacy activities and has successfully promoted legislation that has benefited the wireless telephone industry and its customers.
Berry’s extensive federal government experience includes tenure as Chief Counsel and Director of International Operations and European Affairs for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs for the U.S. State Department; Republican Chief of Staff for the House Foreign Affairs Committee; and Republican Counsel for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He also has managed the office of U.S. Rep. William C. Wampler (R-VA) and worked for the House Committee on Agriculture.
In his role at NCTA, Berry will be responsible for strategic direction and day-to-day management of the cable’s industry’s outreach efforts to members of Congress and the Executive Branch and will lead efforts to advocate support for the industry’s legislative objectives. He will report directly to Robert Sachs.

Berry received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emory and Henry College in Emory, VA, and a Juris Doctorate from George Mason University Law School in Washington, D.C. He succeeds Pam Turner, who in March 2003 joined the Department of Homeland Security as Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs.
NCTA is the principal trade association of the cable television industry in the United States. NCTA represents cable operators serving more than 90 percent of the nation's cable television households and more than 200 cable program networks, as well as equipment suppliers and providers of other services to the cable industry.
