NCTA APPOINTS LOIS RICHERSON AS DIRECTOR, PUBLIC AFFAIRS - EDUCATION

Washington, DC - NCTA today announced the appointment of Lois O. Richerson as Director, Public Affairs - Education. She had previously served as Director of Government Relations for NCTA.

In this newly created position, Richerson’s primary responsibility will be to carry the message of the cable industry’s longstanding commitment to education to policymakers in Washington, including those in Congress and in the Administration.

“I am delighted that Lois is joining NCTA’s Public Affairs team,” said Jim Ewalt, Vice President of Public Affairs. “With her expertise and unique perspective, she will ensure that policymakers in DC know what teachers in classrooms across the country already know - that the cable industry, through Cable in the Classroom and other initiatives, has a real commitment to education by providing technology and resources to America’s schools.”

Cable in the Classroom is the industry’s 12-year-old commitment to provide K-12 schools with commercial-free educational resources -- at no cost to schools. These schools receive free basic cable service and more than 540 hours a month of programming, with free online support materials. In addition, the cable industry provides free high-speed Internet access to all schools and libraries in communities where broadband service is available.

For the past 18 years, Richerson has served as Director of Government Relations at NCTA. Previously, she worked in the Majority Whip Office of the United States House of Representatives; worked as a professional staff member at the American Association of School Administrators; and taught business education subjects in the Washington, DC area.
