2015 Spring Technical Forum Comes to INTX: The Internet & Television Expo

NCTA, CableLabs® and SCTE Issue Annual Call for Technical Papers

WASHINGTON, DC – Some of the cable industry’s brightest technical minds and future-focused business concepts will be on display next May as part of the 2015 Spring Technical Forum during INTX: The Internet & Television Expo. INTX - formerly known as The Cable Show – is a new event that brings together the world of entertainment, communications and the Internet.

The 2015 Spring Technical Forum is presented by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. (CableLabs®), and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and will take place May 5-7, 2015 at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL.

The 2015 Spring Technical Forum targets a broad cross section of senior-level technologists and those with engineering management, operational, and financial responsibilities, with a specific focus on innovation, R&D and the business of technology in the rapidly evolving digital marketplace.

"Cable networks continue to evolve at exponential rates to deliver more digital media and entertainment to consumers than any other platform in the country,” said Dan Pike, GCI’s Chief Technical Officer and Chair of the 2015 Spring Technical Forum Committee. “This Forum brings together the innovative minds that advance the underlying science and technology of the cable industry.”

NCTA, CableLabs® and SCTE have announced a Call for Papers to be presented at the Forum. Submitted papers should focus on new science, technology, services, algorithms, and architectures for cable. While a typical deployment timeframe might be a few years, papers that explore concepts pertaining to either current or future broadband networks are encouraged. Although new thinking and advancements on any technology-driven topic is eligible, topics of particular interest include:

  • Cloud, including: Big Data, software defined networks, network function virtualization, self-optimizing networks, cloud networks for consumer and commercial services, data center migration, and headend-based player models
  • Wireless, including: Wi-Fi as an access technology, Wi-Fi roaming, cognitive networks, and voice over Wi-Fi
  • Security, including: network security, authentication/identity management, consumer anonymity, and customer online protection
  • Future of computer science and whether further gains come from Moore’s Law, rearranged computing architectures, or elsewhere
  • Streaming and OTT services: impact, monetization and value
  • Advanced cable architectures, including: remote PHY, EPOC, PON,  RFOG,  DOCSIS 3.1
  • Spectrum allocation and efficiencies
  • Reaching gigabit capacities
  • All IP networks
  • Bandwidth utilization, control, and traffic engineering
  • 4K/8K video compression and the impact on bandwidth requirements

A blue ribbon panel of senior industry technologists will judge the papers based on the premise, reference value, content and intended audience. Multiple entries will be accepted but product pitches and previously published works cannot be considered.

Prospective authors interested in preparing and presenting a paper at the 2015 Spring Technical Forum should submit a proposal using the online submission tool available at intx.ncta.com/stf2015 no later than December 12, 2014. Authors who have been selected to present their papers will be notified by the end of January and will be invited to present the highlights of their written work during the Forum. The technical papers proceedings will be available for free download during the event and thereafter online.

Admission to the 2015 Spring Technical Forum is included with an INTX full-program registration, however separate sign-up is required. INTX registration opens November 3 at intx.ncta.com.

INTX will also showcase diverse panels and exhibitors representing the entire digital media ecosystem, all-access receptions, networking opportunities, interactive experiences, digital content pavilions and more.
