The 2004 National Show Will Highlight the Latest
in Cable's Consumer Technology

Special Exhibits to Include NCTA's Broadband Home and
CableNET® Technology Showcase from CableLabs?

Washington, D.C. - Two unique technology showcases will anchor each end of the exhibit floor at The 2004 National Show, NCTA's 53rd Annual Convention & International Exposition, May 2-5, 2004 in New Orleans.

"The Broadband Home," a specially constructed, state-of-the-art fully wired broadband home, will showcase the many applications that broadband technology offers to consumers. As previously announced, the cutting-edge CableNET® technology showcase, produced by Cable Television Laboratories (CableLabs®), for the first time will make its home on the floor of The National Show.

NCTA's Broadband Home

The Broadband Home, much like the popular HD Pavilion at The 2003 National Show, will be a cooperative industry effort produced with the aid and support of several technology and programming partners. The 8,000-square foot exhibit will feature the breadth of advanced equipment and services presently supported by cable's broadband platform - all in an every-day setting. Potential demonstrations include video-on-demand (VOD), high-definition television (HDTV), interactive TV, gaming, voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephone service, Broadband Internet access, and home automation - all delivered to the subscriber's home via cable and distributed through the home over wired and wireless networks.

Companies interested in participating may download the Industry Exhibit Request for Proposal from the National Show Web site, and submit proposals by February 9, 2004.

CableNet®

While the Broadband Home exhibit will focus primarily on products and services available today, CableNET® -- having just completed a successful 11-year run at The Western Show -- will take a look at the future to demonstrate what new technologies are on the horizon.

The 10,000-square-foot CableNET® exhibit will feature technology demonstrations by companies from a wide variety of industries supporting the cable industry, including services and applications that cable companies will deliver to their customers via cable's hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) telecommunications networks. Although the basic demonstration platform is HFC, other innovative concepts in wireless solutions or hybrid approaches will be exhibited. Overall, the content, services, and applications demonstrated are expected to improve the lives of cable customers.

"CableNET has served as the platform for the introduction of many new technologies through the years, and we anticipate keeping that record intact at the Cable '04 show," said Dr. Richard R. Green, president and CEO of CableLabs. "We look forward to this new venue and to the opportunity to work once again with the NCTA."

CableLabs is soliciting proposals from service/application developers, manufacturers, cable operators, and cable programmers for demonstrations to be considered for possible inclusion in the CableNET® '04 exhibit. Information on participating is available at www.cablenet.org.

"Cable technology continues to be a significant focus of The National Show," said Robert Sachs, President & CEO, NCTA. "These two technology-rich pavilions, added to a plethora of exhibits from leading cable manufacturers and programmers, promise to make the floor of The National Show a must-see experience for industry executives."
