There is an explosion of Internet traffic heading our way, thank your toothbrush. You don’t need us to tell you the Internet is growing (just in case you do, take a look here and here) — but it’s worth restating the under appreciated fact anyway: The Web isn’t merely developing. It’s exploding, and the numbers prove it. Take a look at our video graphic below — it shows the advancing surge of Internet traffic. In 1992 there were about as many devices hooked up to the Internet as there are people living in San Jose. Today, there are more connected devices than there are human beings on the planet. This expansion isn’t just from cell phones, tablets and laptops — it’s thanks to the toothbrushes, traffic lights and wind turbines that now have IP addresses. The Internet of Things is driving the ever-expanding Web.
