NBCUniversal To Deliver Historic Coverage of Paris Olympics

On Friday, July 26 NBCUniversal will broadcast the Opening Ceremony of the 33rd Olympic Games from Paris, France to kick off a summer of new viewing options powered by innovative technology and years of experience in live sports broadcasting.

The Opening Ceremony will make history as a flotilla of nearly 100 boats takes to the River Seine that runs through the center of Paris, as the waterway is turned into a floating stage to welcome the world to this summer’s Olympiad.

Where to watch

Coverage of the 2024 Games will air across the company’s platforms including NBC, Peacock, USA Network, E!, CNBC, GOLF Channel, Spanish-language networks Telemundo and Universo, and NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.

Each day, NBC will provide fans with at least nine hours of daytime coverage of the Games’ most exciting events, including live coverage of final matches. Peacock will be the streaming home of the 2024 Games, giving fans the most comprehensive Olympic destination in U.S. media history, including live streaming coverage of every sport and event and all 329 medal events.

Due to the time difference, the Games will take over daytime programming and will feature that day’s most popular events live on NBC in the morning and afternoon. Paris 2024 will have more programming hours on the NBC broadcast network than any previous Olympics.

What it takes to deliver a global celebration

Nearly 100 cameras will be deployed in the City of Light, helping NBC Sports deliver the excitement to audiences watching the Games back home in the U.S.

“NBC Sports is deploying a distributed production infrastructure four times larger than any previous Olympics in Paris,” said Cliff Ryan, VP, Network Engineering, NBC.

NBCU has put in place systems to ensure secure and efficient delivery of 4K and 8K content to viewers Stateside, as well as new mobility and wireless technologies to put viewers closer to the action than ever before.

Delivering gold to every audience

Coverage of the Paris Games will be more accessible to viewers of all abilities than ever before, providing the opportunity to enjoy the excitement of the Olympics through enhanced closed captioning, expanded audio description, and improved digital content accessibility.

With unprecedented access and viewing options, American audiences are sure to find what they want, when they want it this summer thanks to the hard work on the ground and in the cloud. To learn more about NBCUniversal’s coverage of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris, visit their website.
