As artificial intelligence accelerates innovation across the economy, it is also placing new demands on the very networks and technologies that power the AI era.
In a recent episode of The Center Edge podcast, NCTA President and CEO Cory Gardner joined host Evan Swarztrauber for a wide-ranging discussion about the challenges and opportunities emerging from the AI era. The conversation explored how the growing demand for memory chips is affecting industries across the economy, including broadband providers that rely on those same components to connect millions of Americans.
Gardner discussed why rising memory costs matter for consumers, network operators and the continued expansion of broadband infrastructure, emphasizing that “we can’t succeed if we don’t have this whole system succeed,” underscoring the essential role broadband infrastructure plays in powering the AI era. He also warned that if the memory chip crunch goes unaddressed, “advancement is going to slow in terms of innovation and opportunity.”
Gardner also shared NCTA’s perspective on spectrum policy, rural broadband deployment, network security, AI innovation and the policies needed to support America’s digital future.
