Cox Communications has announced it has completed the extension of its fiber-optic network in Congress, Arizona, in Yavapai County. The undertaking was one of three projects highlighted in NCTA’s new docufilm, "Every Last Mile.”
- “Every Last Mile” tells the story of the hard work that goes into extending broadband networks to far-out corners of the United States.
- The film follows work crews as they lay cable across difficult terrain to help connect rural communities, from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska to the arid desert of Arizona.
Connecting a former ghost town
The Congress project is the first part of a greater initiative to expand broadband networks in Yavapai County. Cox is also investing in network expansion in Black Canyon City, with the ISP investing a combined $10.5 million for both projects.
The Congress buildout has connected around 1,300 homes in the former ghost town that was once a gold mining center until the mines closed in the 1930s.
- With the ribbon-cutting ceremony held in February of this year, the 36-mile fiber network crosses difficult desert terrain that created arduous working conditions for crews.
- Residents can now access multi-gigabit, symmetrical broadband speeds and a variety of Cox Communication services.
