Washington, D.C. – NCTA – The Internet & Television Association announced today that James Assey, Executive Vice President, will depart the organization at the end of the year after nearly 18 years of leadership and service to explore new professional opportunities.
Since joining NCTA in 2008, Assey has been at the center of the association’s strategic, policy, and operational direction – helping to shape NCTA’s voice and impact across the broadband and television industries. Over nearly two decades, he has played a vital role in aligning the organization’s government relations, legal, technical, and communications work into a cohesive and effective advocacy strategy.
Assey’s wide-ranging contributions have included providing strategic direction and assistance in executing NCTA’s policy, advocacy, and communications initiatives; helping guide and manage the association’s daily operations; coordinating NCTA’s activities among member companies; and representing NCTA’s interests in key policy and strategy forums, including its longstanding collaboration with CableLabs. He also played a key role in planning and development of major industry initiatives and exhibits, most recently NCTA’s policy-focused exhibit and programming, The Continuum at SCTE TechExpo in Washington, D.C. Following his departure, Assey will continue to support NCTA and its President in an advisory capacity.
“James is an exceptional leader, advisor, and colleague,” said Cory Gardner, President & CEO of NCTA. “His depth of experience, judgment, and integrity have strengthened NCTA and the industry in lasting ways. We are deeply grateful for his many contributions and wish him every success as he embarks on his next chapter.”
“It has been the honor of my professional life to serve NCTA and this remarkable industry,” said Assey. “I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, and after thoughtful reflection, I’ve decided it’s the right time to step forward and explore new opportunities. I will always remain a passionate supporter of NCTA, its extraordinary team of leaders, and its unswerving commitment to excellence.”
