Imagine Park Will Feature MIT Media Lab’s Andrew Lippman and Super Session to Highlight TV’s Breakthrough Content

Washington, D.C. — Kayvon Beykpour, visionary co-founder and CEO of Periscope, will join the speaker line-up as a guest of Re/code at the upcoming Internet & Television Expo (INTX) 2016 in Boston.

In addition, Andrew Lippman, Associate Director, MIT Media Lab, and Mark Dzuban, President & CEO of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), will join Comcast Cable Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Tony Werner in a discussion of the technology of tomorrow on the INTX Imagine Park stage.

Also, an INTX Super Session featuring network entertainment executives will zero-in on finding and creating the breakthrough content that is fueling what many have called “the golden age of television.”

INTX is the signature annual event for the media and entertainment industries. Produced by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), this year’s show will run from Monday May 16 through Wednesday May 18 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Beykpour at Re/code segment during INTX Tuesday General Session

On Tuesday, May 17, Re/code’s Senior Editor for Media, Peter Kafka, will feature Kayvon Beykpour, visionary co-founder and CEO of the video streaming app and Apple's App of the Year for 2015, Periscope. Beykpour will appear for the Re/code segment during the INTX General Session starting that day at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Beykpour and Periscope have democratized live video for millions of people globally, with 110 years of live video watched every day on the service. Prior to co-founding Periscope, now owned by Twitter, he co-founded TerriblyClever Design LLC, an app provider enabling university students and faculty to access campus information and services seamlessly from their mobile devices. Beykpour also served as General Manager and Senior Executive for the education-app company Blackboard Mobile after his start-up was acquired.

Imagine Park session featuring Lippman, Werner and Dzuban

Kicking off Imagine Park on Monday, May 16, at 12:15 p.m. Eastern Time will be MIT Media Lab’s Andrew Lippman, and Mark Dzuban of SCTE. In a “Tech Talk with Tony & Guests,” hosted by Tony Werner of Comcast and independent columnist Leslie Ellis, Lippman will share details and demos on a variety of projects at the Media Lab, and Dzuban will offer commentary and discuss the foundational technical shifts and trends coming from the 2016 Spring Technical Forum taking place throughout INTX.  

Lippman has a history of more than 35 years with MIT, where his work at the Media Lab has ranged from wearable computers to global digital television. Currently, he heads the Lab's Viral Communications research group, which examines scalable, real-time networks whose capacity increases with the number of members. Dzuban has led SCTE for more than seven years. With more than 30 years of cable and telecommunications expertise, he worked closely with cable system operators and partners to accelerate scalable, cost-effective carrier class voice solutions for the entire cable industry. Werner, a veteran cable technology executive, is responsible for developing and guiding Comcast’s technology strategy and evolving network architecture, including supporting next-generation consumer systems and technologies, infrastructure and engineering, network integration and management tools, and technical standards. Imagine Park is on the floor of the INTX Marketplace.

Leading content executives from the cable industry will look at their efforts to cultivate breakthrough programming that captivates audiences at scale, in an INTX Super Session.
