Labor Day Is the Perfect Time to Celebrate Cable’s Impact on America’s Workforce

As Americans look forward to the Labor Day holiday, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the cable industry’s contribution to our country’s economy and workforce. Behind the fascinating storylines and celebrities we watch on our favorite cable programs, and behind the speed of which we can stream those stories on our tablets or watch them on our television sets at home, are the employees who work hard every day to deliver these great experiences.

We released a study yesterday that shows how the cable industry is contributing to the health and vitality of America’s economy and is one of the growth industries of the past decade. Today, the cable industry supports 2.7 million Americans who make a combined income of $116 billion. The industry collectively has a $386 billion impact on the U.S. economy. And since 2002, as companies have plowed billions of dollars into network upgrades, new programming and innovative services, the cable industry has added 1.25 million jobs.

NCTA only makes up a tiny part of this impressive industry but we are proud to do our part and can’t wait to see what’s around the corner. We wish all cable employees and all American workers a restful and relaxing Labor Day weekend. You deserve it!

In every congressional district there are at least 300 CABLE EMPLOYEES.

Number of jobs added by the cable industry since 2002 totals 1.25 MILLION.
