Great Expectations at the #Cable2014 General Session [VIDEO]

“Great Expectations” was the name of the game at this morning’s General Session and the panel agreed that the cable industry has great expectations and a bright future in technology, Wi-Fi, and tv everywhere.

The panel included Matt Blank, Chairman & CEO, Showtime, Brian Roberts, Chairman & CEO, Comcast Corporation, Tom Rutledge, President & CEO, Charter Communications, and Bob Stanzione, Chairman & CEO, ARRIS.

Although the panelists were made up of a diverse mix of cable operators, equipment manufacturers and content providers, they all agreed on the ultimate goal: to advance technology into the future to use among various platforms to ensure customers get the product they demand when and where they want it.

The panelists went into the dramatic strides cable has made in the tv everywhere campaign, the enormous investment in DOCSIS 3.1, or Gigasphere, to provide gigabit speeds to customers, and STB hardware developments like the X1 platform. Tom Rutledge summed it up perfectly, that the convergence of a flawless Wi-Fi system with a robust and powerful wireline network is the future of the cable industry and the game changer distinguishing cable from its competitors.
