Cable Dominates Emmy Awards

As Tom Hanks said at last night’s Emmy Awards, “television is better than ever.” And it would seem that television is better on cable.  Cable once again dominated the awards at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards, winning a majority of the awards.  Cable networks grabbed 57 percent of the Primetime Emmys, and 65 percent of the marquee awards that were presented on Sunday night's show, more than in 2011.

Noteworthy from the awards: five of six nominated dramas were cable shows and swept the principal awards for best drama, best miniseries/movie, leading actor, leading actress, directing and writing. Also, half of the comedy show nominations were cable shows, interesting as comedy is an area traditionally dominated by broadcast networks.  And Showtime snagged its first-ever Emmy for a drama series with the amazing Homeland.
