NCTA Statement Regarding the Data Cap Integrity Act

"Regrettably, this ill-conceived legislation ignores the substantial pro-consumer benefits of usage-based pricing. While congestion management may be one effect of tiered pricing, the primary benefits are consumer choice and fairness. Usage tiers give consumers more choices to better fit their bandwidth needs, and they rightly distinguish between low-volume users and high-volume users as is true for many products and services."

"We mourn the loss of Senator Daniel K. Inouye, a true American hero whose life was devoted to honor, country and service to the people of Hawaii. In an age where partisan politics seems inescapable, Senator Inouye exemplified bipartisanship and constructive compromise for the good of our nation. 'We may disagree, but we don’t have to be disagreeable,' was a common Inouye refrain, and his commitment to people over party affiliation was legendary among his colleagues.

Statement of NCTA President & CEO Michael Powell on the FCC Vote to Lift Ban on Basic Service Tier Encryption

By permitting cable operators to join their competitors in encrypting the basic service tier, the Commission has adopted a sensible, pro-consumer approach that will reduce overall in-home service calls and accelerate cable operators’ transition to all-digital networks. Encryption of the basic tier also enhances security of the network which reduces service theft that harms honest customers. We commend the FCC for updating its rules to promote these consumer and competitive benefits.
