NCTA's Powell and Re/Code's Swisher Kick off INTX Chicago [VIDEO]

INTX kickoff

After months of planning and hard work and in front of a crowd of thousand both in Chicago and around the world streaming live, Michael Powell, NCTA President and CEO kicked off the all-new INTX with a conversation with Re/Code Editor Kara Swisher.

For Cable Show veterans, seeing top digital news outlet Re/Code’s Swisher taking center stage with Powell to launch the show will be the first sign that INTX is a totally different kind of event. An interview like this is a fresh new approach to General Session presentations giving top industry leaders and agenda-shapers like Powell and Swisher the ability to deliver unfiltered intelligence about the future of media and technology.

Powell and Swisher discussed everything from Net Neutrality to the future of entertainment. Early on, Swisher noted the dramatic changes taking place in the industry. Powell noted that changes, especially the ones represented at INTX, are about “expanding our peripheral vision.” Powell went on to say, “Video has become so much more dimensional and textural. There’s this fascinating intersection of television and technology all brought about by Internet functionality.”

Later in the conversation Swisher asked how Powell felt about new technologies like Periscope and their ability to allow us to stream anything we want from wherever we are. Powell noted, “Disruptions tend to come with an enormous amount of good and an element of bad – like all things. The good is an amazing experience in which you can have dynamic, almost spontaneous experience with people all around the world.”
