Want a Halloween scare? Get this: In a time when you can watch your favorite scary movies on pretty much any device with a screen, a recent report shows that–gasp–people still tune into TV the old-fashioned way. Ok, so maybe this isn’t as much a spook as it is a surprise for some people, but come to think of it, I would definitely choose watching Paranormal Activity this weekend huddled around my television set accompanied by friends and a bowl of popcorn. That over streaming it on my tablet in the dark all by myself!
Findings by Pivotal Research Group reveal that TV viewership is stable and doing as well as ever, even with dozens of Internet connected devices bringing us another level of entertainment and connectivity. TV viewership among adults 18-49 rose 0.3 percent, and adults over 50 actually saw a 3 percent increase.
And this isn’t meant to overshadow the growing popularity of TV watching through Internet connected devices–which hit 5 percent of total viewing this year in the 18-49 age group, up 3 percent from last year. However, as an early millennial who still enjoys reading print books over kindles and watching my favorite shows on the big screen in my living room, it’s nice to know I’m in good company.
