The nominees for the 74th annual Golden Globes were announced today. Among the honored were 36 nominations for premium TV programs, more than last year. HBO came out strong once again with 14 nominations, the most for any TV network. FX also received nine nominations, followed by AMC with five.
HBO’s Game of Thrones is back vying for best drama series, along with the network’s new science fiction western thriller, Westworld. In the best musical or comedy series category, FX’s Atlanta and HBO’s Veepcompete for top honors. In the category for the best limited series or motion picture made for television, Starz’s The Dresser lands a spot alongside HBO’s The Night Of, FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and AMC’s The Night Manager.
Premium TV actors also dominate in various categories. HBO sweeps with actors Riz Ahmed and John Turturro for The Night Of, Bryan Cranston for All the Way, Lena Headey for Game of Thrones, Thandie Newton for Westworld, Kerry Washington for Confirmation, Julia Louise-Dreyfus for Veep, Sarah Jessica Parker for Divorce, and Issa Rae for Insecure.
Meanwhile, Starz and USA networks leave their mark with nominations for Riley Keough in The Girlfriend Experience and Caitriona Balfe in Outlander, and Rami Malek and Christian Slater in Mr. Robot. FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story also garners nominations for its hit actors John Travolta, Sterling Brown, Sarah Paulson, and Courtney Vance. Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell for The Americans and Donald Glover for Atlanta represent FX in the best performance by an actor in a television drama series and in a comedy series categories, respectively. Liev Schreiber from Ray Donovan represents Showtime for his nomination for best performance by an actor in a drama series, and Nick Nolte from Graves scored one for EPIX in the best performance by an actor in a musical or comedy series category.
Then AMC gets a shout out for Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul, and Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston, and Olivia Colman for The Night Manager, while BBC America takes a nomination for Charlotte Rampling in London Spy.
