Walter Kaitz Foundation Delivers over $1.3 Million in Grants
to Diversity Partners in 2004

2005 Kaitz Dinner Scheduled for September 14 in New York City

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Walter Kaitz Foundation provided more than $1.3 million in 2004 to fund programs and activities of three cable diversity partner organizations, Executive Director Debbie A. Smith said today. The three recipient organizations are: the Emma L. Bowen Foundation, the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC), and Women in Cable & Telecommunications (WICT).

Smith also announced that the 2005 Walter Kaitz Foundation Annual Dinner will be held Wednesday, September 14 at the New York Hilton. The 2004 dinner attracted 1,400 attendees and collected nearly $1.4 million in donations from the purchase of tables, tickets, advertising, and other sponsorships.

"Thanks to the great financial support of the cable industry in recent years, the Kaitz Foundation has been able to deliver more than $1.3 million in grants for programs that provide important mentoring, leadership and executive training skills for women and people of color in the cable industry," Smith said. "As we look ahead to 2005, Kaitz will continue to work closely with our diversity partners to fund important existing and new programs that help shape our future executives and seek to broaden diversity at all levels of the industry."

The $1.3 million in Kaitz Foundation 2004 funding was designated to the three organizations as follows:

  • Emma L. Bowen Foundation: $138,800 delivered to help fund the 2004 Student Conference and Link Mentoring Initiative.

"Kaitz Foundation funding was critical to the success of the Emma Bowen Foundation's 2004 student conference," said Emma L. Bowen President and CEO Phylis Eagle-Oldson. "It allowed us to bring all Foundation students from across the country together for the first time to meet industry leaders and discuss issues and trends, as well as career advice for the future. The Kaitz Foundation also funds the Emma Bowen Foundation's Link Mentoring Initiative, a summer long mentoring program."

  • NAMIC: $1.08 million delivered to support the L. Patrick Mellon mentoring program, Third Annual Alumni Workshop, executive coaching and executive leadership seminars, Middle Manager Leadership training and Transition to Professional Staff training.

"Kaitz Foundation funding was integral to NAMIC this year as we mentored and trained dozens of women and minorities to become future leaders in the cable industry through our highly successful Executive Leadership Program and L. Patrick Mellon Mentorship Program," said Kathy Johnson, executive vice president, NAMIC.

  • WICT: $103,795 delivered to help fund Class XI of the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute, WICT Forum and executive development seminars.

"Support from the Kaitz Foundation has allowed WICT to provide valuable leadership development to an increased number of women and people of color," said Benita Fitzgerald Mosley, WICT President & CEO. "The partnership between WICT and the Kaitz Foundation is invaluable to the industry as we work together to recruit and retain a more diverse workforce."
