Powell Statement Regarding House Judiciary Approval of Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011

The following statement by NCTA President & CEO Michael Powell regards the House Judiciary Approval of the Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 (H.R. 1981).

“Today’s action by the House Judiciary Committee in favorably reporting H.R. 1981, the Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011, marks an important step in our collective efforts to fight against online child exploitation.  The cable industry has long worked with law enforcement and other organizations to assist in the investigation and prosecution of child pornography, and we are committed to continuing such efforts.  We deeply appreciate the dedicated efforts of Chairman Smith and Rep. Wasserman Schultz to make improvements to this legislation.  We look forward to working with them and other lawmakers toward further clarification that will produce reasonable retention practices that can aid law enforcement in stopping crimes against children.”
