NCTA Co-Sponsors National Preparedness Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), on behalf of the cable industry, has joined more than 80 other groups, organizations, and industries, in pledging support for National Preparedness Month. The designation of September 2004 as National Preparedness Month is an initiative by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to promote preparedness in our homes and communities.

As part of its sponsorship commitment, NCTA will distribute the public service announcements developed by the Department of Homeland Security and the Ad Council to cable systems and programmers for their use.  In addition, NCTA may also distribute to the cable industry other consumer education materials about National Preparedness Month as they become available from the Department of Homeland Security.

“National Preparedness Month is an important reminder for all Americans to stock up on critical supplies and household goods plus develop an action plan that can be used in an emergency or crisis situation,” said Robert Sachs, NCTA President & CEO. “The cable industry is pleased to work with the Department of Homeland Security to promote National Preparedness Month.”

NCTA is the principal trade association of the cable television industry in the United States . NCTA represents cable operators serving more than 90 percent of the nation's cable television households and more than 200 cable program networks, as well as equipment suppliers and providers of other services to the cable industry.
