Industry Judges Include Ovation Network CEO Charles Segars, ShortsHD CEO Carter Pilcher, Deadline Hollywood Legal Editor Dominic Patten, Academy Award® Winning Producer Nick Reed and Film Legend Rutger Hauer
April 1, 2014 LOS ANGELES - The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) and ShortsHD™, the world’s only Short Movie Channel in high-definition (www.shorts.tv), today announced details for the Imagine Film Challenge, a special 48-hour student short film competition hosted during The Cable Show 2014, April 29 – May 1 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Student teams who attend Columbia College Chicago, Loyola Marymount University, New York Film Academy and University of California, Los Angeles will compete for prizes including the Top Prize Award. The competition will be judged by Charles Segars, CEO of Ovation Network; Carter Pilcher, CEO of ShortsHD; film legend Rutger Hauer, Golden Globe winner and star of hit films Blade Runner, The Hitcher and Batman Begins; Dominic Patten, Deadline Hollywood Legal Editor; and Nick Reed, Contagious co-founder and Academy Award® winning producer of the documentary short, “The Lady In Number 6: Music Saved My Life,” all of whom will provide immediate feedback on each film and will select the winning team.
The Imagine Film Challenge will bring together these four student teams to create short films of seven minutes or less, with the goal of helping cultivate the next generation of film and TV talent. The challenge provides the students with access to top filmmakers and industry executives, as well as the opportunity to have their work viewed by the world’s leading TV and digital media organizations. The projects will later be broadcast on ShortsHD, which is currently available in the U.S. on DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse, and also across Europe and Africa.
The filmswill be shot and edited on the show floor of the LA Convention Centerand surrounding areas in Los Angeles, throughout the duration of The Cable Show. Their work will be critiqued by Segars, Pilcher, Hauer, Patten and Reed in Imagine Park, The Cable Show’s live events’ stage on the exhibit floor, with the winner taking home the Top Prize Award following the screenings and deliberations.

The Imagine Film Challenge kicks off Monday, April 28, 2014, during the Media Welcome Reception and culminates at the Finals on Thursday, May 1 on the Imagine Park Stage located in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
