on the speech by FTC Chairman Timothy Muris regarding
cable industry monitoring of weight loss advertising claims

“We support the FTC's efforts to find effective ways to reduce misleading claims made by some weight loss products. The Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau has developed voluntary industry guidelines which already include provisions regarding the advertising of weight loss products but we will inform NCTA member cable operators and program networks of any new information that the FTC develops regarding such advertising. However, we believe it is the responsibility of advertisers to substantiate the claims in such advertising.”
