Cable Launches "A Great American Success Story" Media Campaign

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A multi-media advertising campaign that tells the story of the U.S. cable industry’s progress in changing America’s telecommunications landscape is launching here this week, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) said today.

The campaign features the new slogan, "Cable: A Great American Success Story."  Elements include TV, newspaper and magazine advertising, as well as billboard placement in locations including Washington Reagan National Airport and on buses in metropolitan Washington, DC.

The campaign initially will run in the national capital area but will be expanded to several markets nationwide in the coming months.

The campaign emphasizes that the pioneering spirit of early cable system operators still pervades the industry.  Campaign advertising highlights the major consumer milestones that the cable industry has reached in just a few decades, including the launches of basic and advanced digital video services, introduction and nationwide deployment of high-speed Broadband Internet service, and the rollout of digital telephone service, all of which have significantly improved the lives of American consumers.

"Cable has grown from a small provider that offered a handful of TV channels, to a broadband powerhouse that has changed the way consumers view television, use the Internet and make telephone calls," said Kyle McSlarrow, President & CEO, NCTA.  "This is a remarkable story that deserves to be told.  With the investment of billions of dollars and creation of hundreds of thousands of jobs, cable has helped fuel our economy and enriched our lives."

The campaign was developed by the California-based advertising agency, Strategic Perceptions.

In addition to the advertising campaign, NCTA also unveiled a new treatment of its logo that includes green, blue and red colors and features the word "Cable."  The new logo is being phased into all NCTA materials and the NCTA website.
