WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 2012 Spring Technical Forum – hosted by Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. (CableLabs®), the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), returns for the third year as the technical centerpiece of The Cable Show, May 21 – 23, 2012, in Boston.

The multi-day conference, geared towards a broad cross section of senior-level technologists and those with engineering management, operational, and financial responsibilities, will include a series of eight technical paper sessions and a strategic view of cable’s technology future.  During the sessions, more than 35 of the industry’s most distinguished authors will present the highlights of their peer-reviewed technical papers covering the following topics.

  • New Approaches in Advanced User Interface and User Experience Design
  • The Technology Implications of Ultra HD
  • The Next Evolution of DOCSIS…and Beyond
  • Cable’s Expanding Wi-Fi World
  • IP Video Strategy and Solutions -- from Network to Consumption
  • The Gigabit Network - New Possibilities in HFC
  • Multiscreen, Second-Screen and TV Everywhere Delivery
  • Improved Operational Efficiency/Network Performance Enhancements

This year’s technical papers were selected by the Spring Technical Forum Selection Committee, which is chaired by Dan Pike, Chief Technology Officer, GCI Cable, and comprised of industry Chief Technical Officers from the MSO, programmer and solutions provider community in partnership with CableLabs and SCTE.

“I continue to be amazed at the innovation that flows from the cable industry which is reflected in the depth of this year’s technical papers.  We are leading the way in developing cutting-edge broadband products and services, and setting a very high bar for our competitors,” stated Pike. “With this year’s Forum taking place in Boston, we look forward to drawing on the region’s academic and engineering communities to further our discussions on the future broadband.”
