NEW INNOVATIONS AND ACTIVITIES TO KEEP EXHIBIT FLOOR BUZZING AT THE NATIONAL SHOW

Wireless Internet Access Will be Available in “Wi-Fi Park”;
Exhibit Floor Tours Announced

Washington, D.C. – “Wi-Fi Park,” “HD Pavilion,” the media center, and an array of special floor tours and receptions will make the exhibition floor the center of activity throughout The National Show, NCTA’s 52nd Annual Convention & International Exposition, June 8-11 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

NCTA today unveiled plans for “Wi-Fi Park,” a park-like setting located on the show floor that will enable delegates to obtain free wireless Internet access and create a centralized venue for exhibitors to display the latest in wireless Internet technology.

Pre-fabricated display kiosks will provide Wi-Fi Park exhibitors a low-cost, turnkey opportunity to display the latest Wi-Fi gear. NCTA delegates wishing to use their 802.11 enabled communications devices will be able to connect to the Internet free of charge via wireless broadband routers provided by Motorola. Comcast’s broadband Internet service will provide speedy access to email and the Internet.

“Wi-Fi affords the cable industry with an excellent opportunity to drive broadband services deeper into consumers’ homes, further leveraging cable’s investment in its robust data network,” said William Check, Ph.D., NCTA’s Vice President, Science & Technology. “Wi-Fi Park should be a popular addition to the show floor, providing all registrants the chance to experience the latest technology available, and giving vendors an opportunity to showcase their wares.”

Wi-Fi Park joins the previously announced HD Pavilion as new additions to this year’s show floor. HD Pavilion is an 8,000 square foot display produced by NCTA and CableLabs® to showcase HD content from cable networks and broadcast outlets, as well as a variety of digital HD television sets, monitors, and other consumer electronics equipment produced by manufacturers involved in the “plug and play” digital TV transition.

Floor Tours

NCTA also announced a full slate of special exhibition floor tours, to include daily press tours of the show floor led by CEOs and other industry executives. The press tours will be led by each day’s General Session participants, specifically for convention journalists. In addition, NCTA is organizing a Chief Technology Officers’ Tour on Monday, June 9, for the technology press, and a Wall Street Analysts’ tour on Tuesday, June 10. Media should contact [email protected] to reserve a slot on these tours.

Additional VIP exhibition floor tours are being planned for Members of Congress and congressional staff; FCC Commissioners & Commission staff; independent and rural system operators, and for registrants in the system management program.

To ensure ease of access for news media to all floor-related activities, NCTA has located the Show’s media center on the exhibit floor. Accredited reporters and editors working from the “press room” will have easy access to all floor events and will be in close proximity to general and breakout sessions.

Additional, up-to-the-minute information for The National Show, including convention schedule and registration materials, is available via the official web site (www.thenationalshow.com); or from the NCTA’s Department of Industry Affairs (202/775-3669).

NCTA is the principal trade association of the cable television industry in the United States. NCTA represents cable operators serving more than 90 percent of the nation's cable television households and more than 200 cable program networks, as well as equipment suppliers and providers of other services to the cable industry.
