NCTA ISSUES CALL FOR VANGUARD AWARD NOMINATIONS
AWARD CEREMONIES A HIGHLIGHT OF CABLE 2002

Washington, D.C.- The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) today issued its call for nominations for the 2002 Vanguard Awards, the cable industry’s highest honor.

The 2002 Vanguard Awards will be presented during an evening reception on Tuesday, May 7, during NCTA’s 51st Annual Convention and International Exposition in New Orleans. This is a change from recent years, when the Awards ceremony was the official closing event of the National Show.

Inaugurated in 1965, The Vanguard Awards are presented to individuals who excel in business and in personal commitment to colleagues, and whose accomplishments merit the recognition of the cable industry.

"Each year we seek to bestow Vanguard Awards upon individuals who’ve had a real impact on the success of our business. While some winners are high-profile executives, others are unsung heroes of our industry. That’s why it’s so important to attract a full range of entries for this very prestigious awards program," said Robert Sachs, President and CEO, NCTA.

Award winners are honored in the following categories:

  • Distinguished Vanguard Award for Leadership (Man)
  • Distinguished Vanguard Award for Leadership (Woman)
  • Vanguard Award for Young Leadership
  • Vanguard Award for Programmers
  • Vanguard Award for Associates and Affiliates
  • Vanguard Award for Science and Technology
  • Vanguard Award for Cable Operations Management
  • Vanguard Award for Government and Community Relations
  • Vanguard Award for Marketing

Award winners are nominated by representatives of NCTA member companies and selected by an Awards Committee comprised of members of the NCTA Board of Directors as well as former Award winners. Nominations for the Awards are due on or before February 28, 2002. To obtain information about nominations, contact Michelle Ray at 202/775-3669.

NCTA’s 51st Annual Convention & International Exposition will be held May 5-8, 2002, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
