IT Companies Named Winners of Second Annual CIO.IT | Competition 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representatives of two information technology (IT) vendors were selected by cable Chief Information Officers as winners of CIO.IT | Competition 2011, a competition of ideas at The Cable Show 2011, the 60th Annual conference and international exposition of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA).

The winners presented their solutions to major cable IT challenges before panels of CIO judges and hundreds of Cable Show attendees on June 14-16 at McCormick Place in Chicago.  Their proposed solutions were judged based on their merit in five categories:  problem-solving; revenue enhancement or expense reduction; productivity; implementation; and innovation.

Competitors with the winning entries were:

  • Connected home management software – Art Lancaster, Chief Technology Officer & Co-Founder, Affinegy
  • Ad Decision Service Router and Data Boundary Manager – Jeffrey Sherwin, CEO, This Technology

These winners were chosen from a group of eight finalists whose projects had been selected for the final competition.  Earlier this year, a selection committee of cable Chief Information Officers (CIOs) generated the finalists from a group of more than 45 vendors.

“We are thrilled that This Technology was selected as the unanimous winner for Best Ideas in Cable IT Architecture and Strategy among the so many compelling technologies that were nominated,” said Jeffrey Sherwin, CEO of This Technology.  “All eyes are on cable to make fast dynamic ad insertion growth a reality and the Ad Decision Service Router and Data Boundary Manager that we presented at The Cable Show this year represent significant steps toward that. This Technology remains focused on delivering innovative, cost-effective and efficient solutions for delivering ads across VOD, nDVR, IPTV and TV Everywhere platforms, and are pleased to see the industry’s continued support of our approach.”

“The CIO.IT competition was an excellent opportunity to showcase our solutions before the cable industry and we are honored that Affinegy was selected as the winner,” said Art Lancaster. “Given the questions from the judges and audience, it is clear there is keen interest in a solution that can discover, configure and manage a subscriber’s home network and content, no matter what equipment is in use, either a gateway or router supplied by the cable company or one purchased by the customer. That’s one area where our solution is unique from the competition. Helping subscribers manage their connected lives is key in today's increasingly digital world.”

The competition was staged as part of the sixth annual CIO.IT, a Cable Show program for cable Chief Information Officers and IT executives.  More than 200 industry executives whose work revolves around cable information technologies participated in this year’s conference program.
