AWM Announces Gracie Award Local, Online, Public & Student Winners

MCLEAN, VA – With a strong commitment to recognizing the accomplishments of all markets of talent, as well as the next generation of media stars, the Alliance for Women in Media is pleased to announce the 2011 local, online, public and student winners of the annual Gracie Awards. The winners will be recognized at an industry luncheon on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the historic Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Beverly Hills, CA.

National Gracie Award winners will be presented at a dazzling black-tie Gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Click here to view the list of national winners that were announced yesterday.

The Gracies recognize exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women in all facets of electronic media, as well as individuals who have made contributions to the industry. The awards program also encourages the realistic and multifaceted portrayal of women in entertainment, news, features and other programs.

Each year, the Gracies attracts the best and brightest in radio, television, cable and new media. This year’s local, online public and student winners include KTLA’s  The Baby Plan, George Washington University’s The Price of Convenience, The Tiziano Project’s multimedia journalism website 360 Kurdistan, Oregon Public Broadcasting’s The Ethics of Egg Donation,  and WFUV-FM’s Gay Teen Runaways. (See below for a complete list of winners.)

“The power of this year’s Gracie Award winners showcases how vital a role women in the industry continue to have,” stated 2011 AWM Chair Sylvia Strobel, Esq. “We look forward to honoring these deserving programs and individuals.”

“This year we recognize and amazing group of women who are changing the face of media,” said AWM President Erin M. Fuller, CAE. “Their accomplishments have set a higher standard for the quality of media we receive through television, radio, and online.”

The Gracies are presented by the AWM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AWM which supports educational programs, charitable activities, public service campaigns and scholarships to benefit the public and women in the media. The Gracie Awards, established in 1975, honor programming and individuals of the highest caliber in all facets of radio, television, cable and web-based media, including news, drama, comedy, commercials, public service, documentary and sports.
