THE CABLE SHOW PARTNERS WITH SHORTSHD™ THE SHORT MOVIE CHANNEL FOR 48-HOUR STUDENT FILM COMPETITION IN LOS ANGELES, CA

The Cable Show and ShortsHD™, the world's only Short Movie Channel in high-definition (www.shorts.tv), are teaming up to launch a special 48-hour student short film competition during The Cable Show 2014 on April 29 – May 1 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The Imagine Film Challenge will bring together student teams from three LA-based universities to create short films of seven minutes or less. The goal of the competition is to help cultivate the next generation of film and TV talent by providing students access to top filmmakers and television executives, and to help get their work seen by the world's leading TV and digital media organizations.

The Cable Show 2014, the cable industry's annual conference sponsored by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), brings together more than 12,000 technology and television professionals from around the world.

The films will be shot on The Cable Show exhibit floor at the Los Angeles Convention Center and surrounding areas in Los Angeles. The films will be edited, screened and critiqued by a panel of industry judges in Imagine Park, The Cable Show's live events stage on the exhibit floor. The judges will select winners in a variety of categories and provide on-the-spot reaction and feedback on each film. The projects will later be broadcasted on ShortsHD, which is currently available in the U.S., UK and Canada.

Throughout the 48-hour contest, teams will be paired with media partners who will provide mentoring and general project collaboration, production assistance, potential opportunities for additional distribution of their work, and sponsorship of the team's participation in the competition.

"Our network takes pride in fostering the next generation of filmmakers year in and year out. We are honored to be teaming up with the The Cable Show to help further this mission with such a fun and engaging competition,” said Carter Pilcher, CEO of ShortsHD. "What's even more exciting for the filmmakers is that they get a chance to have their works scene by thousands of the leading cable executives from all over the world at show and also on our network the leading platform for HD short movies."

"We are happy to provide a showcase for young filmmakers during The Cable Show," said Mark Bell, VP of Industry Affairs at NCTA. "Since the student filmmakers will be working live at Imagine Park on the exhibit floor, it will be exciting to see them show off their creative videos to the entire industry."

The Cable Show will allow the teams full access to the show floor before, during and after show hours. The winning film will take home a Top Prize Award following the screening. The official participating schools and media partners for the competition will be announced in the coming weeks.
