Calls to regulate nascent interactive television services, which have yet to be defined, would have the unintended consequence of discouraging investment and slowing their introduction, National Cable & Telecommunications Association President & CEO Robert Sachs said Wednesday in his keynote address to the SCTE Expo 2001 in Orlando, Florida.

Recipients of this year’s Vanguard Awards, the cable industry’s highest honors, were announced today by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA). The awards will be presented on Wednesday, June 13 at a special ceremony and luncheon during Cable 2001.

Press luncheon/conference call with Charter Communications President & CEO Jerry Kent, who -- in his role as NCTA Convention Chair -- will discuss Cable 2001 and this year's theme "We're Making Broadband Happen."

The National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) plans to introduce new features to benefit delegates and the media alike at Cable 2001. These elements include free Internet access in the full-service “Cable Courtyard,” and fully-furnished corporate meeting rooms.

NCTA today announced the addition of two new professional staff members to its Government Relations department. Cinnamon Rogers will join the association as Legislative Counsel, and Cliff Riccio will serve as Manager of Government Relations.

NCTA’s name-change -- from the National Cable Television Association to the National Cable & Telecommunications Association – will become effective Tuesday, May 1, 2001. NCTA also will re-launch its web site (www.ncta.com) May 1.

A healthy and balanced diet of television and Internet content can be a positive, educational force in children's lives, yet media consumption should be measured with tools such as those provided by the cable industry, NCTA President & CEO Robert Sachs today told the Cable Television Public Affairs Association's Forum 2001.

The Cable 2001 press briefing, originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 25, has been postponed due to a House Committee hearing that day. Revised details follow.
