As Congress and the Administration dedicate funding and explore new programs to expand broadband deployment in the U.S., The Cable Show ’09 will highlight how the cable industry’s nationwide broadband infrastructure is improving the lives of Americans in a special exhibit called “Broadband Nation.”

On Friday evening, April 3, the Washington Convention Center will rock to the sounds of bands competing in the National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s (NCTA) “Battle of the Bands” competition to raise funds for City Year and Washington, DC schools. Battle of the Bands – featuring musicians from cable operators, networks, suppliers and the media – will be the closing event for The Cable Show ’09, NCTA’s 58th Annual Convention and International Exposition at the Washington Convention Center, April 1-3.

NCTA President & CEO Kyle McSlarrow today sent a personalized letter to every Member of Congress to respectfully suggest a framework and priorities for the federal government agencies that are charged with implementing the $7 billion broadband grant and loan programs that were established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. 

The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) today called for volunteers to assist in the cable industry’s 2009 “CableCares” community service initiative to help improve Washington, DC schools and assist local charities.

On March 3, 2009, President Barack Obama named Julius Genachowski as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

Dan Brenner, longtime National Cable & Telecommunications Association Senior Vice President for Law and Public Policy, is leaving the association to join the Washington, D.C. office of Hogan & Hartson LLP as partner in the telecommunications, media, and entertainment practice. Brenner’s last day at NCTA is February 28 and a search is underway for a successor.

NCTA today announced that a new slate of entertainment, technology and finance executives have been confirmed to participate in four General Session panels during The Cable Show ’09, NCTA’s 58th Annual Convention and International Exposition on April 1-3, 2009, at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.
