WASHINGTON, DC – In an effort to educate skilled veterans, reservists and military spouses about the U.S. cable industry and connect them with companies that are seeking workers, dozens of companies will be participating in a job fair hosted this June at the National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s (NCTA) annual convention, The Cable Show 2013.
Cable operators and programming networks as well as technology and software companies will be conducting on-site interviews and testing for nationwide jobs. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to attend career guidance workshops aimed at improving important skills, such as resume writing and interviewing.
The Hiring Our Heroes job fair will be held on June 11, 2013, during The Cable Show 2013, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. This hiring event is being conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with NCTA, the Cable & Telecommunications Human Resources Association (CTHRA) and other local and industry partners. Veterans, guardsmen and reservists are invited to attend this job fair. Pre-registration is recommended, however walk-in job seekers are welcome but may not be guaranteed on-site interviews. To register, please visit www.hiringourheroes.org.
“Cable has a strong commitment to create opportunities for the men and women who have so honorably served our nation,” said Michael Powell, President & CEO of NCTA, and a military veteran. “This event will help recruit veterans to become lifelong, highly productive employees who will help lead this exciting industry to continued success for years to come. And thank you to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and CTHRA for partnering with us on this important event.”
“We are thrilled to work with NCTA on what promises to be a tremendous opportunity for veterans and military spouses in the D.C. area,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Schmiegel (Ret.), executive director of Hiring Our Heroes. “Industry specific hiring fairs are a great way for companies to find talented men and women with a strong interest in a particular field. NCTA has demonstrated a commitment to our nation’s heroes and this will undoubtedly prove to be a win-win for participating employers and job seekers.”
“This special Hiring our Heroes job fair provides industry employers with an opportunity to hire skilled and experienced talent for positions across the U.S. It’s a wonderful way to introduce cable telecommunications careers to our country’s heroes, and CTHRA is honored to be part of it,” shared Chris Powell, president of CTHRA and executive vice president of Human Resources for Scripps Networks Interactive.
As part of the day’s program, participants will also receive complimentary access to the The Cable Show’s exhibit floor to meet with program networks that have created world-renowned and award-winning content; and technology and software companies that have created the powerful capabilities of connected communities.
Hiring Our Heroes is a nationwide initiative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Since March 2011, Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 400 hiring fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia; more than 14,100 veterans have been placed in jobs.
Participation by employers is by invitation only to member companies of the NCTA and CTHRA as well as to all exhibiting companies in The Cable Show 2013.
