WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 2011 Spring Technical Forum – hosted by Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. (CableLabs®), the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) will return in 2011 as a fully integrated program during The Cable Show, June 14-16, 2011 in Chicago. A successful collaboration uniting the innovative thinking of SCTE’s Conference on Emerging Technologies®”, NCTA’s annual Technical Papers™ program, and the thought leadership of CableLabs, the Forum will feature a full program of peer-reviewed papers and invited panels featuring the latest critical thinking on Cable’s technology future.
“We’re building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which boasted standing room only breakouts, exclusive updates, and special networking receptions, and have very high expectations for 2011. We’re bringing together the top innovators in the broadband industry to explore new scientific frontiers and propel the industry’s technical foundation forward – beyond the here and now,” said Dan Pike, Chief Technology Officer, GCI Cable, and Chairman of the Spring Technical Forum Selection Committee.
This year’s Technical Forum will once again be targeted towards a broad cross section of senior-level technologists and those with engineering management, operational, and financial responsibilities, with a specific focus on innovation and the business of technology in the rapidly evolving digital marketplace.
The three organizations announced a joint call for technical papers, which can include any topic of interest to the cable broadband engineering community. Specific topics of interest include:

- New Concepts in Intelligent Networking
- The Effect of Unmanaged Services on the Managed Network
- Integration of Internet-based services
- Content Distribution Networks
- New Approaches in Energy Management – In-home and Headend

- Evolving Internet transport protocols
- Network safety and security
- Mobile/Wireless
- Business Services and Applications Over Cable
- Next-generation Search and Navigation for TV Everywhere (multi-device, AI, cloud-based speech recognition, Web 3.0, etc.)
- Advanced Advertising/Interactive Content
A blue ribbon panel of industry experts, led by Dan Pike, will jury the papers. Judging will be based on the premise, reference value, content and intended audience of each paper. Multiple entries will be accepted but product pitches and previously published works cannot be considered. Prospective authors interested in preparing and presenting a paper at the Spring Technical Forum should submit a proposal using the online submission tool available at www.springtechforum.com no later than January 14, 2011. Authors who have been selected to present their papers at the Spring Technical Forum will be notified in mid-February and will be invited to present the highlights of their written work during the Forum. The technical papers proceedings will be available for purchase during the event and thereafter online.
