Representatives of two information technology (IT) vendors and a research engineer from a prominent university were selected by cable Chief Information Officers as winners of CIO.IT | Competition 2010, a competition of ideas that debuted this week in Los Angeles at The Cable Show 2010, the 59th Annual conference and international exposition of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA).
The winners presented their solutions to major cable IT challenges before panels of CIO judges and hundreds of Cable Show attendees on May 11-12 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Their proposed solutions were judged based on their merit in five categories: problem-solving; revenue enhancement or expense reduction; productivity; implementation; and innovation.
Competitors with the winning entries were:
- In a panel on successful IT integration, Ramsay Hall, Research Engineer, Planning and Development, Georgia Institute of Technology
- In a panel on managing subscriber data, Simon Marwood, Chief Executive Officer, Scorecard Systems, Inc.
- In a panel on cloud computing, Shally Stanley, Managing Director, Global Services, Acumen Solutions
The three winners emerged from a group of 10 finalists whose projects had been chosen for the final competition from more than 40 entries. In addition to having the opportunity to engage with cable CIOs, winners of CIO.IT | Competition 2010 may designate charities to which NCTA will make a contribution in their name.
The competition was staged as part of the fifth annual CIO.IT, a Cable Show program for cable Chief Information Officers and IT executives. More than 200 industry executives whose work revolves around cable information technologies participated in this year’s program.
