WASHINGTON, D.C. – The many ways in which cable’s innovative content and distribution platform improve the way consumers live, work, and play will be featured in “My World – Powered by Cable,” a forward-looking, consumer-focused content and technology pavilion at The Cable Show 2010.

The Cable Show 2010, the 59th Annual Convention and International Exposition of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), will take place May 11-13 in Los Angeles.  

“My World” will be a 27,000 square-foot exhibit built to resemble a movie studio lot, and it will include homes, schools, parks, and businesses.  The special exhibit is being produced by NCTA in cooperation with Time Warner Cable – the cable system operator in Los Angeles – cable programming networks, technology solutions providers, and other select partners.

“With The Cable Show in Los Angeles this year, we have  a great opportunity to showcase both our industry’s extraordinary content and how our  technology is delivering a vast array of world-class entertainment, innovative new media applications, and critical information to consumers, in ways that are more personal, portable and immersive than ever,” said Kyle McSlarrow, President & CEO, NCTA.  “Cable’s broadband technology platform has opened up a whole new world for how we discover, share, and consume content in and out of the home.”

“My World” will showcase cable’s leadership in building and maintaining large, sophisticated, nationally-scaled networks for distribution of video, voice, high-speed data and wireless entertainment and information services to consumers across America.  The exhibit will explore the intersection of award-winning content and innovative new delivery platforms looking forward three to five years.  

Demonstrations of advanced equipment, services, and content offered, supported, and/or enabled by cable’s broadband networks will include:

  • Next generation program guides and user interfaces
  • 3D TV delivered to your living room

  • Tru2way and enhanced TV interactive applications

  • Enterprise video, voice and high-speed data
  • Networked home technologies
  • Home automation and control/energy management systems
  • Broadband-enabled home appliances
  • Home security and monitoring
  • WiMAX mobile broadband
  • Advanced videoconferencing systems
  • Portable media across multiple devices and platforms
  • Social networking/social television
  • Online video gaming
  • Commercial services for retail and hospitality industries
  • Broadband educational applications in and out of the classroom

  In addition to a variety of lifestyle-themed environments, a special “Red Carpet” section within the cityscape will highlight cable’s leadership in providing rich, diverse and cutting-edge content that continues to receive critical acclaim.    

Organizers are planning to announce shortly the availability of a mobile application which enables attendees to use interactive maps on their Smartphones to navigate My World’s many venues, learn more about what is inside, and download information on the products and services inside the interactive exhibit, among other features.
