“Our companies are proud to support One Economy’s broadband adoption proposal for stimulus funding, with matching letters outlining the resources they can bring to the table.  If One Economy’s application is approved, cable companies serving communities comprising more than 85 percent of American households have pledged to provide qualifying HUD families in their service area with significant discounts on cable’s Broadband Internet service, discounted cable modems, and free standard installation of the service.  In addition, the cable industry alone has pledged to provide at least $1 million in promotional support for the program, if approved.  For well over a decade, our industry has been deeply committed to driving the availability and use of Broadband to American homes and businesses, as demonstrated by our investment of more than $160 billion so far in broadband deployment.  We’re also strong believers in the power of public-private partnerships that can promote broadband adoption through coordinated strategies that improve digital literacy skills, promote computer ownership, and encourage home broadband use, as evidenced by our earlier broadband adoption proposal, Adoption Plus.  We’re thankful to One Economy and the other partners in this application for the opportunity to participate in finding ways to overcome barriers to adoption among many American families who are most in need of the benefits of Broadband.”
