WASHINGTON, DC – Band From TV will headline the third annual CableCares “Battle of the Bands” charity fundraiser at The Cable Show 2010 on Tuesday, May 11, at 8:30pm at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles’ L.A. Live complex.
CableCares is a cable industry program that raises funds and organizes volunteers to support worthy causes in the convention’s host city. The Cable Show 2010, the 59th Annual Convention and International Exposition of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), will take place May 11-13, 2010, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Band From TV features an all-star lineup of well-known and acclaimed actors including: Greg Grunberg (drums), currently starring in HEROES; James Denton (guitar), currently starring in DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES; Adrian Pasdar (guitar), currently starring in HEROES; Bob Guiney (vocals), who appeared on THE BACHELOR and is currently the host of GSN Live; Jesse Spencer (violin) currently starring in HOUSE, and Scott Grimes who has starred on ER and AMERICAN DAD. Additional surprise guest stars are expected to be announced in the coming weeks leading up to the event. The majority of the money raised from all Band From TV performances are donated to charity.
This primary beneficiary of CableCares efforts this year is “A Place Called Home,” a non-profit youth center in South Central Los Angeles (www.apch.org). In addition, Band From TV has also designated several worthy charities to receive support, including: National Epilepsy Foundation, The Art of Elysium, The Indiana University – Kenya Partnership, Rush University Medical Center Epilepsy Foundation, The Conservation Fund, and Lupus LA.
“We deeply appreciate that the members of Band From TV are donating their time and efforts to help support a number of great causes,” said Barbara York, Senior Vice President, Industry Affairs, NCTA. “This spirit of giving is a perfect complement to the mission of CableCares, which has raised nearly a half million dollars in the past two years to benefit the host communities for The Cable Show – communities also served by cable industry companies.”
“Band From TV is thrilled to be a part of this great event,” said Greg Grunberg, founder and band leader. “Our number one goal is to raise awareness and money for very worthwhile causes and organizations, all while having a great time doing what we love.”
“Battle of the Bands” is a live competition featuring bands comprising some of the cable industry’s top musical performers. Celebrity judges and audience voting will determine the winner of the “Battle.”
To qualify as a competitor in “Battle of the Bands,” musicians must be employed within the cable industry, its suppliers or supporting industries. Audition performances (in mp3 format) should be submitted via email to thecableshow@ncta.com, by March 1, 2010. The response to date has been strong and performance slots are limited. Selected bands will be notified shortly after the deadline and each will perform a three-song set during the concert.
