"We applaud Senators Wyden, McCain and Sununu for introducing important legislation to protect consumers from new and burdensome state and local taxes on Internet access. Maintaining a tax-free environment for broadband services allows cable and other broadband providers to provide more affordable high-speed Internet service to millions more consumers in an environment unfettered by unnecessary taxation. We urge Congress to enact a permanent moratorium on Internet taxes before the temporary ban expires later this year."
NCTA is the principal trade association for the U.S. cable industry, representing cable operators serving more than 90 percent of the nation's cable television households and more than 200 cable program networks. The cable industry is the nation’s largest broadband provider of high-speed Internet access after investing $100 billion over ten years to build a two-way interactive network with fiber optic technology.
