NCTA Partners with Carbonfund.org to Reduce Convention’s Carbon Footprint

WASHINGTON, DC – The Cable Show 2010 will continue its push for environmental awareness and a reduced carbon footprint through a new partnership with Carbonfund.org, the leading nonprofit carbon reduction and climate solutions organization. The voluntary program will make “going green” easy for both attendees and exhibitors at the 59th Annual Convention and International Exposition of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), May 11-13, 2010, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

“We began an initiative to reduce waste several years ago, and are eager to ratchet up our efforts to promote conservation at The Cable Show 2010,” said Barbara York, Senior Vice President, NCTA. “Many of our exhibitors have requested a carbon offset program, and we are happy to provide one. Carbonfund.org makes it easy to do the right thing and brings us closer to our goal of producing a carbon-neutral event.”

The carbon offset program allows both exhibitors and attendees to contribute to the New York State Landfill Methane Project, a third-party validated project identified by Carbonfund.org. This innovative methane destruction initiative is a forward-thinking approach to waste management that offers tremendous promise for reducing pollution and mitigating climate change. For more information of on the methane destruction project, visit www.carbonfund.org/site/projects/profile/new_york_state.

NCTA has also noted the direct emissions cost associated with producing The Cable Show, calculating and offsetting the emissions of attendees’ hotel, food, and the convention space.

In addition to providing a turn-key carbon offset program to help exhibitors meet their corporate “greening” goals, the program also provides additional visibility and acknowledgement for participating in the carbon offset program, including:

· “Carbonfund.org Participant” exhibit signage.
· Carbonfund.org buttons to distribute to booth visitors.
· Logo listing and link on “Going Green” section of The Cable Show 2010 web site.
· The Cable Show 2010 e-newsletter and social media mentions regarding program participation.
