Keynote Remarks by Joseph W. Waz, Jr., Vice President, External Affairs And Public Policy Counsel, Comcast Corporation, at the Broadband Policy Summit. He addresses current telecommunications regulation, focusing on the issue of "network neutrality."
* * * * *
"...in their unguarded moments, some proponents of network neutrality will admit that what they really want is to apply century-old, monopoly era common carrier regulation to competitive broadband networks.
"Others will admit that they’d be happier with a government-run monopoly 'big dumb pipe...'
"When government decided to throw markets open, put an end to protected monopolies, and embrace competition, it unleashed hundreds of billions of dollars of investment, and more consumer choice than at any time in history.
"So I hope that Congress will take a deep breath."
