Debunking “The Net is Neutral” Myth

Publication Type: Other Voices
Date: 9/8/2006

An examination of Network Neutrality from Scott Cleland, Chairman, NetCompetition.org; Founder & President, Precursor, LLC.

Cleland argues that imposing Net Neutrality will not maintain the status quo, but create changes in the Internet’s operation. He suggests that many aspects of the operation of the Internet are not neutral, including traffic treatment, backbone peering, access pricing, the way users consume bandwidth, and regulatory/legal precedent.
