"A la carte cable regulations would rob television of its diversity"

Publication Type: Miscellaneous Publication
Date: 6/24/2006

An editorial opposing a la carte, written by Larry Aidem, President & Chief Executive Officer of The Sundance Channel. The piece, as it ran in the Salt Lake Tribune, can be found online here.

"Our work at Sundance Channel gives cable and satellite customers, many of whom otherwise lack the opportunity to see independent films, shorts, documentaries and other original programming from new voices, the chance to see the work and hear the creative messages of widely disparate producers, directors, writers and actors.

"This multiplicity of voices is one of the things that makes our nation great.

"Let's not imperil this gift with 'a la carte' regulations that would curtail or eliminate the many critically worthwhile voices and points of view that are expressed on television today."
