Africa Channel, The
Cable Network
The Africa Channel brings the rich and diverse culture of Africa and the African Diaspora into U.S. homes with first-run English-language programming presented in a simulcast of SD and HD. More than 60 percent of the network’s content is produced in native HD. The network features culturally-relevant original and licensed content, ranging from the highly acclaimed weekly episodic drama, Jacob’s Cross, set in Lagos, Nigeria and Johannesburg, South Africa; and the popular daily soap operas, Generations and Isidingo. Original programming includes the music performance and interview series, SoundTracks@REDKiva and Africa SoundStage; plus exclusive concert specials and series focusing on standup comedy, lifestyle, travel, arts, culture, literature and filmmaking. The network also offers a weekly news magazine program, Africa Journal, plus documentaries and specials, including A Night of Tribute, an awards program honoring top filmmakers from Africa and the Diaspora. In a year-round “Know Your Heritage” campaign, The Africa Channel presents an ongoing series of sixty (:60) second vignettes and hour-long specials following the emotional journeys of celebrities and others in the in the Diaspora who use DNA tests to trace their ancestry back to specific ethnic groups and countries in Africa.
