Two-Way Plug & Play/tru2way
Tru2way (formerly known as OpenCable) is a software platform that enables digital TVs and other devices to access cable’s two-way, interactive services without the need for a set-top box.
By working together, cable operators and consumer electronics manufacturers are deploying tru2way technology. Consumers in some markets can now purchase a new “plug and play” TV and receive cable’s interactive digital services with one remote control. In October 2008, Panasonic debuted new tru2way TVs in Denver and Chicago, which enable Comcast subscribers in those markets to utilize cable’s interactive programming without a set-top box.
Tru2way creates an open platform for delivering interactive services to consumers and will provide content developers an opportunity to develop new services that can be quickly disseminated throughout the tru2way national footprint.
As part of tru2way being implemented in the marketplace, a number of independent consumer electronics manufacturers – which represent the majority of U.S. TV sales - plus chip makers and other companies have licensed the technology to make tru2way products.
