HBO – Entourage: NCTA hosted a Blogger Summit to provide an open discussion with local telecommunications and policy writers. At the conclusion of the discussion, HBO provided a sneak preview of Entourage. Now in its fifth season, the award winning program took its bow on September
7 on HBO. (September 2008)
News Corp Washington Office – Babylon A.D.: 20th Century Fox Films premiered Babylon A.D. for members of the military community including injured soldiers from Bethesda Naval hospital and locally-stationed Marines. From director Mathieu Kassovitz, Babylon A.D. is a futuristic thriller starring Vin Diesel. (August 2008)
BET Networks – Program Upfront: BET in partnership with Viacom’s Washington office hosted a
special encore program upfront of BET & BETJ content offerings scheduled for fall ’08 season. Guests
included Washington policymakers, opinion leaders and advocacy partners. In addition to highlighting
new original series, returning hits, and special features including their 2008 election coverage, guests were
treated to a special live performance by R&B vocalist, Jeffrey Osborne. BET Networks have taken its
upfront tour, similar to a State of the Union Address, to other cities including LA, Chicago, Detroit, and
New York. (July 2008)
FX Network – 30 Days: News Corporation’s Washington Office hosted an encore screening
presentation of the FX original series 30 Days for Washington policymakers and opinion leaders. 30
Days executive producer and star Morgan Spurlock, who is best known for his documentary film Super
Size Me, was on-hand to answer questions about the series, now in its third season. (June 2008)
Smithsonian Channel – Sweet Lady with a Nasty Voice: The Smithsonian Channel hosted a
premiere of Sweet Lady with a Nasty Voice, the Wanda Jackson biography, for opinion makers and
industry executives. A native of Oklahoma, the legendary Wanda Jackson is the first lady of rockabilly
touring with Elvis Presley and other rock-n-roll legends early-on in their careers. Wanda was on-hand to
answer questions about the film prior to her locally scheduled concert performance. (May 2008)
Hallmark Movie Channel in HD – Sweet Nothings In My Ear: Hallmark Movie Channel in HD
hosted an encore screening of Sweet Nothings in My Ear a Hallmark Hall of Fame film release for
opinion leaders and members of the deaf community. The film’s stars Jeff Daniels and Marlee Matlin
fielded questions about the feature at the conclusion of the screening. (May 2008)
Viacom’s Washington Office – Iron Man: Viacom’s Washington office hosted a premiere screening
of Iron Man the two-hour action packed film produced by Marvel and Paramount for opinion leaders
and industry executives. (May 2008)
Sundance Channel – Big Ideas for a Small Planet: Sundance Channel hosted an encore screening of
the first episode – season II entitled, “Fuel” in its documentary series, Big Ideas for a Small Planet for
Washington policymakers and opinion leaders. Sundance Channel’s Founder, Robert Redford created
the documentary series as the first weekly primetime destination focusing on environmental topics which
places an emphasis on the positive work being done by companies and individuals to reduce their carbon
footprint. (April 2008)
Viacom’s Washington Office – Shine A Light: Viacom’s Washington office hosted an encore
screening of the Martin Scorsese’s two-hour concert documentary of The Rolling Stones Shine A Light for opinion leaders and industry executives. The documentary was shot using 17 cameras during two
concerts at New York’s intimate Beacon Theater in 2006. The film’s title “Shine A Light” is a song title
featured on their 1972 album Exile on Main Street. (April 2008)
Discovery Science Channel – In the Shadow of the Moon: NCTA hosted a special screening
premiere of Science Channel’s original documentary In the Shadow of the Moon for members of the
National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners’ (NARUC)
who were in Washington for their
annual winter meeting. Winner of the World Cinema Audience Award at the 2007 Sundance Film
Festival, In the Shadow of the Moon highlights original NASA film footage shot in high definition and
offers audiences a tantalizing glimpse of an extraordinary era in American history. (February 2008)
HBO – The Wire: HBO hosted a special screening premiere of the final episode of its critically acclaimed drama The Wire to celebrate its final season. Guests included Washington-based media and opinion makers. The Wire writer/director, David Simon was on-hand to answer questions about the final season and future projects on HBO. (February 2008)
